Connect with Marcus

Marcus Bailey is a highly experienced professional with over 25 years in both architecture and project management, specialising in the execution of complex projects within the tertiary and retail sectors. As the Director of Project Management in Victoria and National Sector Lead for Tertiary and Retail at DCWC, Marcus has positioned himself as a leader in large-scale university projects across Australia. He boasts a proven track record in managing multifaceted developments and projects that demand innovative solutions and strategic stakeholder engagement.

His extensive experience encompasses significant contributions to major projects including RMIT University's Swanston Academic Building and New Academic Street (NAS), Melbourne University's New Student Precinct (NSP), Victoria University's City Tower, and the award-winning Boola Katitjin academic building at Murdoch University.

Among his career highlights is the consolidation of RMIT University's Business School through the “One College Way” project, where he successfully led the relocation of over 600 staff from various departments into the Swanston Academic Building. The $200M NAS project, a blend of new construction and refurbishment in Melbourne’s CBD, illustrates his capacity to manage complex projects while ensuring operational continuity in a live environment. As Project Director for NAS, he adeptly navigated the challenges posed by 13 stakeholder groups and six architectural practices, leading to the seamless execution of this intricate project.

Marcus collaborated closely with the University of Melbourne to develop the business case and procurement strategy for the ambitious New Student Precinct, overseeing the project from inception to completion. This complex adaptive reuse initiative, conducted within a live university setting, showcases his expertise in managing large-scale projects effectively.

Additionally, Marcus has directed critical developments such as the 405 Bourke Street project for Brookfield Property Partners, which delivered over 67,000 m² of lettable area for NAB while addressing the challenges of a constrained site footprint and implementing an innovative structural system.

His experience also extends to heritage projects, having contributed to significant renovations at sites including Parliament House Victoria, Trinity College Dining Hall, and the 1888 Building at the University of Melbourne. Marcus's expertise is further complemented by his involvement in a diverse array of retail projects, ranging from boutique strip shops to large-scale supermarkets.

Committed to giving back to the community, Marcus is currently engaged in pro-bono work with the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS) and Studio Schools Australia, developing procurement models for initiatives such as the Manjali Studio School in Fitzroy Crossing, which employs modular techniques to reduce construction costs in remote areas of Australia. As a participant in this year’s Property Council of Australia's 500 Women mentoring program, Marcus is also dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders in the industry.
