DCWC was engaged by Homes Victoria to provide full Quantity Surveying services for the Tarakan Street social and affordable housing project.
Tarakan Street is the transformation of the former 1956 Olympic Village into a vibrant residential and community hub. Supported by the Victorian Government’s Big Housing Build initiative, this Heidelberg West project has revitalised 60 older homes into 130 modern residences, including 67 social housing units and 63 affordable homes. Designed by NH Architecture in collaboration with Bird de la Coeur Architects and Openwork+Tract, this development not only increases housing availability but also enhances community living standards. The new residences offer a variety of one, two and three-bedroom options, equipped with contemporary amenities and energy-efficient features, achieving a 5-star Green Star rating and a 7-star average NatHERS rating.
DCWC was instrumental in this redevelopment, providing comprehensive Quantity Surveying Services from the initial design phase to project completion.
The project also includes community-friendly elements such as a terrace garden, barbecue areas, and a designated play space for children, fostering social interaction and community involvement. Moreover, pedestrian pathways have been improved to connect the site with surrounding neighbourhoods.
Built by BESIX Watpac Constructions, Uniting will manage the social housing for the next 30 years, while the consortium Victorian Affordable Rentals (VARc) will take charge of the affordable housing units, ensuring continued support and maintenance for residents.
