DCWC is providing full cost management services for the redevelopment of a heritage-listed brutalist structure designed by Howlett and Bailey Architects in 1973.

The goal of this project is to improve the experience for artists, audiences, and the community while preserving the building's architectural integrity and renowned acoustic features.

The redevelopment, designed by WITH Architecture Studio and Office for Metropolitan Architecture, includes the following key aspects:

  • Preservation of the concert hall’s acoustic qualities
  • Essential structural maintenance to uphold the award-winning architecture
  • Upgraded seating, new rehearsal spaces, and enhanced backstage facilities
  • Refurbished foyer areas with improved signage and lighting- Expansion of the level two foyer to create new bar and social gathering spaces
  • Enhanced accessibility, including remodelled auditorium entry, lifts, stairs, additional toilets, and a relocated box office
  • Transformation of outdoor spaces for community use
  • Facilities for small events, educational visits and training

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with an opening planned for early 2028. Once completed, the building will serve as the permanent home for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2025.
