The Ian Potter Southbank Centre is home to the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM).
It encompasses eight levels and approximately 9,000 square meters dedicated to learning and teaching programs. The formal learning spaces are complemented by a range of informal learning hubs. This variety of learning environments supports and encourages diverse music learning methodologies and innovative teaching practices.
Studios 1 and 2, along with the Music Workshop, form the core of MCM. The building is designed to meet the specific acoustic, practice, and teaching needs of MCM. It features major rehearsal spaces as well as individual practice rooms, with the acoustic characteristics of each area carefully tailored in collaboration with the client group and an acoustic engineer.
MCM offers active connections to the Southbank Campus and the larger Melbourne Arts Precinct. The building aligns with the vision outlined in the "Southbank Campus Urban Design Framework" and meets the goals established in the "Melbourne Arts Precinct Blueprint," making a significant and meaningful contribution to the community.
