Canterbury South Public School
Architect: NBRS
Builder: Lloyd Group Pty Ltd
Completion: 2022
Value: $35M
Location: Canterbury, NSW
Completed in late 2022 and welcoming students in Term 1 of 2023, the Canterbury South Public School redevelopment significantly enhanced the campus, increasing its enrolment capacity to accommodate up to 690 students.
The project introduced modern learning spaces and upgraded essential facilities, including:
A new 3-storey building with 30 learning spaces
Modern library
Multi-purpose hall for performances and gatherings
New canteen
Covered outdoor learning area (COLA)
New administration building
Internal ‘kiss and drop’ facilities
External landscaping and open play areas
Designed by NBRS, the redevelopment aimed to honour the school’s existing character while embracing the natural features of the site. The future-focused design incorporated Environmental Sustainable Design (ESD) and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles, improving nearby waterways and providing educational opportunities for students.
The redevelopment was carefully staged to ensure the school could remain fully operational throughout construction. This unique approach allowed for the seamless delivery of general learning spaces during the build, culminating in a cohesive and thoughtfully designed campus.
