Donald Cant Watts Corke has been appointed by the Queensland Department of Education to oversee the Mabel Park State High School – New General Learning Centre project located in Slacks Creek, Queensland. The scope of their involvement includes Project Management, Superintendency, Programme Management, and Cost Management. With a start date in 2020, the project was successfully completed in 2022, with a contract value of AUD $22.5 million.
The primary objective of the project was to construct new learning centre. To achieve this, the project was divided into five separable portions, resulting in the creation of a three-story structure. The new spaces include 19 learning areas, including General Learning Areas, Outdoor Learning Areas, and specialist teaching spaces on the first and second levels. The ground level has ancillary accommodation, while special attention was given to designing a large functional undercover area that incorporated feature level changes. Furthermore, the project included the construction of undercover walkways, integrated landscaping, additional car parking, and the reconfiguration of access and egress roadways.
With a focus on meeting the stringent timeline requirements, Donald Cant Watts Corke thoroughly managed the project to ensure its successful completion within the allocated timeframe. Their responsibilities encompassed overseeing various aspects, including project management, supervision, program management, and cost management. By providing comprehensive services in these areas, the project team aimed to ensure efficient coordination, adherence to budgets, and the delivery of a high-quality learning centre that meets the needs of Mabel Park State High School and its students.
The official opening in 2022 was attended by the Minister of Education, Grace Grace, and other notable guests, marking a significant milestone for Mabel Park State High School and celebrating the successful completion of the New General Learning Centre project.
