DCWC is supporting Melbourne Airport with the upgrade of their outdated security system.

The objective of this project was to modernise the outdated Corporate Aviation Security International (CASI) access control system at Melbourne Airport by upgrading it to the advanced Genetec system.

Initially, a rollout with a previous delivery partner did not meet expectations, prompting APAM to reset and replan the project, with DCWC managing the transition to Fortis as the new delivery partner. Given the constraints of remaining funding, APAM decided to execute the project in two distinct stages.

Stage 1: Initial Audits, Methodology Development, and Cost Planning (completed)

  • Audited door controls related to two micros in Pier F.

  • Planned and implemented upgrades to the access controls for these doors.

  • Conducted a thorough audit of door controls in the more complex environment of Terminal 2.

  • Upgraded several additional doors, contingent on available funding.

  • Leveraged insights from initial audits and upgrades to develop a comprehensive methodology, cost plan, and timeline for the rollout of upgrades for all remaining doors.

  • Secured funding based on the established plan.

Stage 2: Roll-out of upgrade across the airport (in progress)

  • Audit remaining CASI doors to determine scope of works required to upgrade to Genetec.

  • Audit existing Genetec doors that were delivered prior to this project to determine compliance levels and any associated upgrade scope required.

  • Audits and implementation to be conducted in stages to facilitate commercial engagements, development of discrete scope packages, and support communications and planning for implementation.

  • Upgrade all access-controlled doors (approximately 1,100 in total) to the Genetec System and conform with the associated APAM standard.

  • Patch and treat penetrations from existing door hardware where removed.

Through effective project management and strategic planning led by DCWC, the Genetec Security Upgrade at Melbourne Airport has significantly enhanced security measures and improved operational efficiency, ensuring a safer environment for all users.
