For International Women’s Day today, we celebrate Lavinia Chan, Quantity Surveyor in our Melbourne office.

Whilst studying for her Bachelor of Design at the University of Melbourne, it was during her second year that Lavinia was drawn to the practicality and hands-on nature of construction and decided to ensure her remaining electives were construction-related.

It was at the UoM's Construction Students Association's annual Industry Night that she met future colleagues at the DCWC stand. Learning about our multidisciplinary offering across quantity surveying, project management, infrastructure and health advisory services opened her eyes to the broadness of the construction industry, and the realisation of how rewarding her career could be.

Since that encounter, Lavinia began as a Cadet Quantity Surveyor with DCWC, her first job in the industry.  What makes Lavinia's role as a Quantity Surveyor exciting is the constant change and challenges that come with each project. She thrives in an environment that is constantly evolving and challenging her.

Lavinia attributes her growth to supportive mentors who continually expose her to different sectors and aspects of construction. They have instilled in her the belief that DCWC is a great place to grow and develop professionally. Seeing other women in her company receive industry nominations and awards also inspires her. Lavinia is empowered by the women within her team and the broader industry. As a proud member of NAWIC, she enjoys attending their events which has reinforced her belief in the supportive network of women working in construction.

She is optimistic about the future for women in the construction industry and believes that women's contributions are becoming increasingly important as they bring unique ideas and perspectives to the table.

Lavinia is excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.  She is eager to see how far she can go in the industry and is ready to take on any challenges that come her way. Well done Lavinia and thank you for your enthusiasm and contributions to our projects!
