DCWC was proud to provide Quantity Surveying expertise as part of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) team on two significant projects.

Our support spanned the procurement of managing contractors and trade subcontractors, and the construction phases, ensuring project delivery aligned with the highest standards and best value for money.

Cherry Creek Youth Justice Centre

Located in Little River, this purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility redefines youth justice infrastructure. With 140 rooms—including 120 residential spaces and 20 specialist rooms for mental health, intensive intervention, and healthcare services—Cherry Creek is designed for young males aged 15–18 who are on extended remand or serving sentences.

The facility also includes a 4-room preventative detention unit and has been master-planned for future expansion, with capacity for up to 244 rooms on its expansive 31-hectare site. Key features include:

  • A recreational centre and vocational training campus for trade-specific programs.
  • Dedicated spaces for cultural and faith-based initiatives, complemented by gardens and a yarning circle.
  • Energy-efficient designs utilising recycled materials.
  • Culturally sensitive, age-appropriate living and learning environments.
  • Modern staff facilities, including a fully equipped gym and scenic views of the You Yangs mountain range.

Western Plains Correctional Centre

Situated in Lara, the Western Plains Correctional Centre represents Victoria's newest maximum-security facility and is set to open in mid-2025. The 1248-bed complex comprises a range of buildings, including administration, accommodation, healthcare, and prison industry spaces.

The facility is designed to focus on rehabilitation, offering targeted programs to reduce reoffending rates and improve reintegration prospects. Safety also takes precedence, with measures to ensure a secure environment for staff and inmates alike.

These projects highlight DCWC’s unwavering commitment to delivering expert Quantity Surveying services for critical infrastructure that serves the community. We are proud to have played a role in shaping facilities that contribute to a safer, more supportive justice system in Victoria.
