Rajab Rezaei, Quantity Surveying Cadet at Donald Cant Watts Corke
DCWC recently welcomed Quantity Surveying Cadet, and RMIT University’s 2023 Donald Cant Watts Corke Scholarship recipient, Rajab Rezaei to our team. The annual scholarship is for RMIT Construction or Project Management students from an under-represented group in the community with demonstrated circumstances that have significantly impact their study. An inspirational addition to the DCWC family, during Rajab’s short time with us he has already displayed an innovative and determined work ethic.
Arriving to Australia in 2007 as an Afghan refugee with his siblings and mother, Rajab has experienced more adversity than most will in their lifetime. His father had arrived by boat seven years earlier out of desperate circumstances to secure a future for his family and the seven years apart was extremely challenging for all family members. Rajab’s initial years in Victoria weren’t easy; starting at the local primary school without being able to speak or understand English, finding it difficult adapting to a new environment and culture, whilst also missing his extended family back home.
A talented and decorated state soccer player and Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award recipient, Rajab has also had a lifelong affinity to the built environment. After completing a VCE VET Certificate IV in Building Drafting Design, Rajab went on to complete a Diploma of Building Construction at RMIT, and currently has just two semesters left of his Bachelor of Applied Science (Project Management) (Honours) degree.
Enjoying the cost and estimating components of his studies, Rajab has transitioned seamlessly into his daily tasks at DCWC as a Cadet Quantity Surveyor, and although his major is Project Management, the cadetship in quantity surveying will broaden his future career opportunities.
Welcome to the team, Rajab!
Applications for the 2024 Donald Cant Watts Corke scholarship open on Monday, 1 August. To learn more, visit RMIT's scholarship page.
