Melbourne Airport Dynamic Lane Allocation Project

Donald Cant Watts Corke was engaged by Melbourne Airport to deliver works for the Dynamic Lane Allocation Project, the next stage of the reconfiguration of Melbourne Airport's forecourt.

Our team provided Project Management, Design Management and Superintendent Services for this innovative project. 

The proposed works will provide airport vehicles with clearer direction and improve the experience of customers when navigating the precinct. DCWC managed all key activities required to deliver the project including the design, tender and construction phases, 
as well as the handover and defects liability stages.

The project included the installation, and commissioning of two variable message signs mounted on new gantry sites along Terminal Drive, the removal of existing static signs and gantries and static signage replacement. In collaboration with Civilex and procured under a D&C Contract, DCWC successfully delivered the first LED traffic signs in Victoria. This consisted of the installation of CCTV, thermal cameras and radar detection devices, which feed data into the newly developed monitoring system to allow the variable message signs to adapt to changing traffic conditions.

Built and tested in Perth, the two variable message signs were delivered to Geelong for installation onto the newly fabricated structural gantries. Their installation at Melbourne Airport required the planned closure of both the Terminal Drive and the entire Melbourne Airport forecourt. DCWC successfully managed and communicated the impacts to all stakeholders through months of consulting and planning, alternative provisions for public and stakeholder access were carefully considered to limit impacts to Melbourne Airports 24-hour operations.
