DCWC is pleased to announce the successful completion of Freshwater Unit, located within Malabar's Forensic Hospital.

DCWC played a significant role in this project, offering Quantity Surveying and Project Management services for the newly established mental health inpatient facility, Freshwater Unit (FWU).

Situated within the Forensic Hospital in Malabar, a high-security mental health facility with 135 beds, the recently established FWU is a secure mental health inpatient unit with a capacity for five beds. Its primary purpose is to support patients in their journey toward recovery and rehabilitation. This unit is designed to be a specialised environment capable of addressing the diverse needs of high-risk patients in a flexible manner. It provides care to admitted patients who have acute mental disorders associated with extremely challenging behavioural disturbances, in a less restrictive environment compared to what is currently available within the Forensic Hospital.

Managed by the Justice Health & Forensic Mental Health Network on behalf of NSW Health, the Forensic Hospital offers mental health rehabilitative services for the state. FWU was originally developed and continues to operate under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement where PPP Solutions oversees the procurement of facilities management and other services for the NSW Government.

Reaching practical completion in December 2023, DCWC's involvement extended beyond construction of the unit to included surrounding landscaping, driveway, footpath and related services. This project represents a crucial investment in improving mental healthcare services in New South Wales.
