The building is the first whole of building response to the University’s new “Melbourne Model” for teaching and learning.Levels Basement Level 1 to Level 6 include teaching spaces with a focus on collaborative teaching styles. Levels 7 to 12 incorporate academic offices that combine a mix of modular offices and open plan workstations.

A range of sustainable development principles and practices have been incorporated into this building which is the first in Victoria to be awarded the 5 Star Green Star Education Pilot rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).It is also the largest building in Australia to qualify for this award. As the University aspires to be a leader in sustainability, both through its role as an education institution and as one of the largest public organisations in Australia, the building sets a new benchmark for environmentally sustainable design in both the Victorian education and public sectors.

The project was completed on time and under budget. Donald Cant Watts Corke was the Project Manager and Cost Manager.
