The Taxiway Zulu project comprises 300,000m2 of new pavements across new, extended, and realigned taxiways in the north of the airfield, enabling future expansion of the international terminal. The project also includes the construction of the new Northern Access Route, incorporating security screening facilities, new airside perimeter security fencing, and road infrastructure, all of which are being constructed by Fulton Hogan.
The new taxiway network is the largest single airfield investment for Melbourne Airport since its opening in 1970. It will provide valuable additional capacity for aircraft traffic, improve the efficiency of ground movements, and support the growth of Melbourne’s international connectivity.
In addition to the usual project management and contract administration services, DCWC’s role managing this project has included the coordination of the highly technical and complex operations and approvals requirements on the airfield, including construction staging and associated aircraft traffic impact modelling, OLS & PANS-OPS penetration approvals with Air Services Australia, CASA and the Department of Infrastructure, management of PFAS contaminated spoil and much more.
