A new $10 million heliport installation for Royal Perth Hospital has been completed. The 788 square metre heliport is vital to improve health outcomes throughout Western Australia and provide advanced facilities for the recently announced upgrade of the Emergency Rescue Helicopter Service (ERHS) aircrafts to access Royal Perth Hospital.

Donald Cant Watts Corke provided QS services for the project, which was delivered by FIRM Construction through the challenges faced by the construction industry due to the pandemic, while maintaining a live hospital environment during construction. The new heliport is situated in a new location allowing the previous helipad to remain operational.

The Western Australian Government announced a $26.7 million upgrade of the ERHS, that will deliver three next-generation aircrafts with increased range and enhanced technology through provider CHC Helicopters.

The new generation of rescue aircrafts will be able to travel further and faster, and significantly improve the health outcomes of sick and injured patients throughout the rural and remote regions of Western Australia.

With an 83% increase in patients arriving at Royal Perth Hospital via helicopter throughout the past ten years, the heliport is an asset to ensure patients get to the hospital quicker and improved health services can be provided to the community.
