Murdoch University Strategic Asset Management Plan and Environmental Performance

The SAMP is the key document driving the development of Murdoch University’s (MU) asset portfolio and the development of its Perth Campus over the next decade.

An important component of developing a robust, long-term asset strategy is to understand the existing portfolio in its entirety.

In assessing MU’s asset performance we integrated our sustainability services and undertook a comprehensive analysis of energy, water and carbon emission performance. In doing so we identified a reporting discrepancy that improves MU’s carbon emissions profile by 23% and will lead to more robust sustainability reporting against the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) and to the Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association (TEFMA).

The asset strategy we adopted in the SAMP has enabled enhanced decision making by providing an empirical basis for improving MU’s long-term operational efficiency, environmental sustainability and service delivery outcomes.

The SAMP provides MU with a living document that supports its strategic objectives to develop the Perth Campus into a ‘Smart City’ Campus and green precinct. Aligning with the underpinning Master Planning and campus development planning, to realise the vision for the Perth Campus.
