Dual Taxilane

Melbourne Airport serves as the primary gateway for airline passengers and freight to Victoria and southeastern Australia. The Dual Taxilane project is designed to upgrade the taxi lanes, enhancing operational efficiency for Code C aircraft operations. Key initiatives include the installation of dual Code C taxi lane line markings on Taxilane Yankee and Taxilane Golf, along with new airfield ground lighting. The project also entails the removal of existing Code E markings and parking positions.

DCWC is serving as the external Project Manager and Contract Administrator, with BECA as the principal Design Consultant. Fulton Hogan were engaged as the Principal Contractor with ADB Safegate as the specialist AGL subcontractor. The scope of work includes:

Installation of Dual Code C Taxilanes on Taxilane Yankee (completed early 2025)

  • Create new centrelines for Taxilane Yankee North and South.
  • Install 25 airfield lighting canisters, 85 fittings, MAG signs, and CMS.
  • Remove the existing Code E centreline on Taxilane Yankee and add markings for towing Code E aircraft.
  • Realign the Airside Road on the north side of Pier G.
  • Remove existing Code E parking spots (G41A, G45A) on the north side of Pier G, with the potential for their retention.
  • Add two new Code E parking spots on the south side of Pier G, ensuring minimal impact on adjacent Code C positions and revisiting the design.
  • Develop towing procedures for Code E aircraft to positions F12, G41A, and G45A while maintaining power-on access to F22.
  • Design pushback markings for positions G41-G49 and F12-F22.

Installation of Dual Code C Taxilanes on Taxilane Golf (ongoing)

  • Create new centrelines for Taxilane G North and South.
  • Install new airfield lighting and systems.
  • Remove the existing Code E centreline on Taxilane G.
  • Realign the Airside Road as necessary.
  • Realign Taxiway Sierra for full Code E compliance (previously part of MOS 139).
  • Widen the airside road at the western end of Pier E to approximately 10 meters, considering traffic flow and aircraft clearance.
