A new purpose-built student accommodation development is set to give a Wellington Street corner in Perth a facelift by blending the current heritage listing façade of the Globe backpacking site with the contemporary architecture of a new 39 level residential building.

Donald Cant Watts Corke is providing Project Management and Superintendent Services for the student accommodation project. Managing the construction of a challenging site with a very small footprint, with the end result of a tall and elegant tower.

A 39 level student accommodation development, containing 433 beds in 258 units, together with communal facilities, basement plant, and a ground-level commercial tenancy and 84 bicycle parking spaces is located at 553 Wellington Street.

The proposed student apartments consist of single studios, twin studios, and four and five bedroom clusters. This private accommodation is supported by extensive communal facilities to foster student well-being and interaction.

The development is located within the King Street Heritage Precinct. The design retains and integrates with the principal aspects of the existing building, being the Heritage Listed Wellington and Queen Street frontages of the Globe Backpacker site, with a series of conservation works proposed.
