19 June 2018 - National:

Following on from the successes of many store upgrades, refurbishments and new builds with David Jones since 2017, our Melbourne-based Retail team is delighted to have been part of three more stores which were completed, and opened within 24 hours of each other.

The new Malvern Central David Jones food court was an extension of an existing space within the shopping centre in Melbourne’s inner south-east; the David Jones Mandurah is a brand new 6,000 m2 store in Perth, Western Australia; and the David Jones located in Green Hills, near Newcastle, just north of Sydney, is another very large 8,000 m2 brand new store.

“To deliver three stores in such a short space of time, is a real accolade to the team, and a strong reflection of the partnership we have with David Jones,” commented Mr Mark Vass, Retail Sector Lead.

“Working on stores nationwide requires a dedicated team of highly experienced professionals – more so, when they are delivered in collaboration with Phil Waters, Head of Construction and the David Jones Real Estate development team; on time and on budget.”

“Fantastic achievement and support by your team also Mark, especially in getting all three projects in on budget,” said Mr Philip Waters, Head of Construction, on social media channel, Linked In.

“Well done and thanks again for your support,” Mr Waters added.

To date, our Retail sector team, led by Mark Vass, has been involved in over 30 stores across Australia. This coincides with Donald Cant Watts Corke being appointed by David Jones in 2017 to provide a structured, strategic, governance cost management framework; which includes expanding the existing processes; the creation of efficient and new strategic cost management processes, as well as training.

“Implementing new ways of working for the Real Estate Development Team to enhance their current strategic vision is at the forefront of the work we are doing,” added Mr Vass.

“Providing a sustainable baseline model, as well as cost reductions, supply chain buy-in and accurate capex budgeting throughout any future development programs are also initiatives being developed by our team.”
