Donald Cant Watts Corke’s strong portfolio of both public and private health projects continues in 2015. Partnering with a number of leading health providers Donald Cant Watts Corke is delivering outstanding results with projects executed on time and with budget to the highest quality standards.

Wollongong Private Hospital

Donald Cant Watts Corke are providing Project Management and Cost Management Service to the $100M Wollongong Private Hospital. Due to open later this year the 5000M² facility will include 151 beds, 10 theatres, cath lab, radiology, nuclear medicine, pharmacy, pathology and specialist medical tenancies.

Spanning over eight storeys with an additional 3 level basement car park for 317 vehicles, the hospital will include all major services including an intensive care unit, cardiac catheter laboratory, radiology and oncology units and a university teaching centre.

The hospital sets a new standard in local private healthcare within the region with the majority of overnight accommodation to include private rooms with ensuites and, a dedicate special care nursery.

Northern Beaches Hospital

Donald Cant Watts Corke have recently been appointed to act as the Financiers Independent Verifier for the Northern Beaches Hospital project.

To be completed early 2019, the project is being designed, built, operated and maintained by Healthscope, to deliver a modern 50 space emergency department. The nine storey hospital will include 14 operating theatres and cater for 1,400 cars parked on site.

Scheduled to open in 2019 the hospital will provide emergency medicine and intensive care services, a maternity and special care nursery, paediatric and geriatric medicine, inpatient mental health, renal dialysis, cancer services and pathology and pharmacy services. The campus will also be a hub for teaching, training, education and research.

Completed under a competitive PPP agreement, the hospital will provide vital local health services to both public and private patients.

Maitland Hospital

The new Maitland Hospital will be replacing the existing facility, which include buildings dating back to the 1840’s. Key considerations of the new Master Plan include hospital accessibility including on-site parking requirements, access to local transport and a designated hospital helipad.

Providing Cost Management Services, Donald Cant Watts Corke is assisting the development of a new local healthcare precinct on the 40 hectare site. Planning for the new facility proposes the inclusion of an Emergency Department, ICU, surgical and medical services, maternity unit and paediatric medicine, ambulatory care, cancer and renal dialysis services. 

Midland Health Campus

Perth’s new $360M Midland Health Campus is set to open in 2015. Jointly funded by both the Commonwealth Government and State Government the hospital will deliver free of charge services to public patients, enabling more local people to access healthcare closer to home.

Donald Cant Watts Corke are currently providing Independent Certification services for the new 307 bed facility for St John of God Health. Working under a PPP contract St John of God Health have designed and built the new facility and will continue to operate and maintain the hospital, with a 60 bed private hospital to share the site.

The hospital will provide expanded services in areas including; mental health, rehabilitation, cancer, cardiology, general paediatrics and ambulatory care.

Royal Hobart Hospital

The Royal Hobart Hospital is one of Australia’s oldest Hospitals, operating on the same site since 1820. Donald Cant Watts Corke are continuing to provide full Quantity Surveying services for the new redevelopment project.

The largest hospital in Tasmania, Royal Hobart is the major teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania, providing general and specialty medical and surgical services and is the state referral centre for cardiothoracic surgery, intensive care and high-risk obstetrics.

South West Hospital and Health Services

The Queensland Government have heavily invested in a major upgrade of healthcare services in Queensland’s South West region. Donald Cant Watts Corke has provided Quantity Surveying services for the upgrades to the local health and hospital portfolio including $3.3M in upgrades and refurbishments works to the Charleville Hospital, part of a wider $51.58M state wide rural hospital rectification works program.

Further upgrades include; a new seven-bed sub-acute/ rehabilitation service at Roma Hospital providing geriatric evaluation and management, as well as rehabilitation services. Additional works at Roma include essential fire and electrical safety system upgrades totalling $3M.

The programme of work included a further direct investment by the SWHHS district which included the refurbishment of both the Injune Hospital and St George Hospital Emergency Departments (upgrades to the existing triage and imagining areas to improve workflow and patient confidentiality), construction of new executive staff accommodation at Roma Hospital and nursing staff accommodation at the Injune, Surat and Dirranbandi health facilities.

Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital

Scheduled to open in 2016, the Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital is set to revolutionise healthcare within the region. Providing specialist Independent Reviewer services, Donald Cant Watts Corke are assisting the State of Queensland and the Queensland Health and Exemplar Health (SCUH) Partnership to Offer patients a range of new and expanded free public hospital services.

Once open the hospital will initially cater for 450 beds with the ability to grow to 738 beds by 2021 and the potential to further expand to 900 beds beyond 2021. The hospital will include Emergency and Maternity services, a dedicated Cancer Centre and Rehabilitation and Mental Health Unit, Specialised Medical and Surgical services, Renal and Allied Health services, outpatient Ambulatory Care and a base for the Skills, Academic and Research Centre (SARC) given the new facility will be a public tertiary teaching hospital.

This new public hospital facility is co-located and adjacent the recently completed 168 Bed Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital which Donald Cant Watts Corke assisted the Ramsay Healthcare Group in successfully opening in November 2013.

Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service Total Asset Management Plan (TAMP)

The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Services (DDHHS) is an independent statutory body responsible for delivering public health services to approximately 300,000 people across a geographic area of 90,000 square kilometres to the west of Brisbane. Future usage projections indicate that service delivery within the DDHHS will need to change and or grow to meet the changing needs of the population.

The diverse and dispersed nature of the DDHHS requires a different approach to the traditional model of health services delivery. The provision and alignment of adequate infrastructure is an essential component of future service delivery to support an appropriate medical and health service and workforce.

Donald Cant Watts Corke’s specialist team recently developed the DDHHS TAMP utilising an in-house asset performance assessment framework which was aligned with the hospital and health services strategic health delivery objectives. The product of which was the development of an integrated plan, based on the considered assessment of the DDHHS asset estate, with possible asset management strategies to include acquisition, renewal, replacement, maintenance and disposal delivering a recommendation which aligned the estate with the strategic and operational requirements of the Hospital and Health Service .

Bendigo Hospital

Donald Cant Watts Corke is pleased to be providing Independent Reviewer services for the Bendigo Hospital PPP project.

Work continues on Australia’s largest regional hospital which will include 10 operating theatres, 372 inpatient beds and 72 same day beds. Specialist services also include a 5 bed mother and baby unit and a 75 bed integrated mental health facility. Additionally, 1,316 car park spaces and a helipad will also be delivered.

Work on the hospital is expected to be completed by the end of 2016 with the car park and helipad to follow by the middle of 2018.
