Flinders Street Station Façade Strengthening and Conservation | Lovell Chen

Melbourne’s iconic Flinders Street Station has been restored to ensure the treasured landmark is preserved for current and future generations.

The original Flinders Street Station was completed in 1910, designed by James Fawcett and H.P. Ashworth of the Railways Department. As part of the Victorian Government’s refurbishment project, Flinders Street Station underwent both exterior and interior works.

In need of urgent attention, the landmark required structural strengthening, heritage façade restoration, replacement of majority of the concrete roof, extensive repair of the copper and ballroom roofs, removal of hazardous materials, repair of the clock, structural repair of the ballroom, new high-tech LED façade lighting and upgrade of the Flinders Street awning. To preserve the landmark’s history, existing fixtures and fittings were collected and stored in archive rooms. DCWC is delighted to have provided Quantity Surveying services for this heritage project.
